The GEM Gas Conversion technology presents an elegant solution for some of the major environmental challenges facing the world today. Atmospheric pollution, waste management, sustainable energy and resource use are issues embraced globally as significant problems associated with social and industrial development of the modern world. Topics such as climate change, non renewable fossil fuel use, landfill, poor resource management and sustainability need addressing today to protect tomorrow. The GEM process can produce sustainable renewable energy from wasted resources with significantly reduced environmental impact than other waste disposal methods. The GEM gas conversion process does not create emissions, exhaust gases from the generation of electricity are treated by best available technologies as recommended by EU standards. For permitting and regulation, the GEM process falls under the IPPC Regime and the Waste Incineration Directive. The GEM advanced thermal conversion process is neither incinerator nor combustion, however there is no other existing Directive other than WID that technologies such as ours fit into. This is an issue that is being lobbied at Government level in order to separate Advanced Thermal Conversion Technologies from the incineration trademark. Since the conversion occurs in the absence of air and oxygen, the syngas mainly consists of methane and hydrogen, unlike incineration or gasification gases which by the process of oxidation produce oxide gases. This provides a far more efficient conversion factor. Combustion only occurs when the syngas is converted to electricity within a generator engine and typical engine exhaust gases are created. These exhaust gases are treated by a thermal oxidiser to ensure minimal environmental impact and substantially WID compliant atmospheric release. The GEM process qualifies for ROC?s ( Renewable Obligation Credits), OFGEM have approved GEM as a ?not excluded? technology. Feedstock material must meet the fossil fuel sourced percentage criteria to enable 100% ROC on electricity sales. |
